7 Biblical Truths About Abuse & Victim-Blaming
A message for survivors, truth-seekers, and women on the path to healing.
Let’s get one thing clear:
Abuse is never justified. Not by age. Not by bad decisions. Not by the Bible.
As women, especially those of us who love God and are trying to grow spiritually, we’re often told to endure, keep quiet, or carry the blame for what others did to us. But at InspireHer Collective, we believe in telling the truth even when it’s uncomfortable.
Here are 7 biblical truths every woman needs to know about abuse, healing, and God’s heart for victims:
1. No mistake justifies abuse.
Even if you were young, naive, or broken
no one had the right to harm you.
You might have made bad choices. That still doesn’t give anyone permission to hurt you.
📖 “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.” — Ephesians 5:11
2. God’s love is never abusive.
Real love God’s love is patient, kind, and never controlling or violent. Anyone who harms you while claiming to love you is lying.
📖 “Love is patient, love is kind… it does not dishonor others.” — 1 Corinthians 13:4-5
3. Abuse is not discipline it’s sin.
Some call it correction. Some spiritualize it. Some say you deserved it. But abuse is never God’s way of dealing with sin. It’s evil and it needs to be confronted.
📖 “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil.” — Isaiah 5:20
4. Blaming victims is unbiblical.
God doesn’t shame the broken. He defends them. If your first reaction is to question what someone did to “deserve” abuse, check your heart.
📖 “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves…” — Proverbs 31:8
5. You were a victim before you became a survivor.
Many of us wear the title “survivor” proudly but we forget that at some point, we were victims, too. And that’s not shameful. It’s part of the story God is healing.
📖 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
6. God wants you healed, not silenced.
Healing doesn’t mean pretending nothing happened. It means processing the pain with God, with therapy, and in safe community. Your voice matters. Your story matters.
📖 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3
7. Abuse is never God’s will for anyone.
Not in marriage. Not in ministry. Not in parenting. Not in silence.
God’s heart is always for the oppressed.
📖 “Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” — Psalm 82:4
Final Word:
If no one has told you this before, let us be the first:
It wasn’t your fault. You didn’t deserve it. And you’re not alone.
Healing is holy. Therapy is a tool. And faith is the foundation. At InspireHer Collective, we believe in all three.
🕊️ Whether you’re still silently suffering or loudly healing God sees you.
And we do, too.
